An Inescapable Financial Future
The more I delve into cryptocurrency, the more confident I am that it signifies the future of finance. Several months ago, I stumbled upon a cryptocurrency influencer from the Philippines on TikTok. His message resonated deeply: “Perhaps you’ve been trying to enlighten your friends and family about this new financial frontier, but they remain uninterested. Focus not on them, but on your own journey. You have been chosen.”
This statement struck a chord with me because I had been making similar attempts to discuss Bitcoin and blockchain technology with my circle, often encountering skepticism or indifference. Last December, I engaged in my first meaningful conversation with a fellow crypto investor. We dominated the discussion, exhilarated to finally share insights on this rapidly evolving field. Our host commented, “You’re so passionate; it almost feels cult-like.”
To this, we replied, “It’s impossible to unsee the potential once you grasp it.”
Navigating Social Perceptions
I’ve largely ceased trying to introduce cryptocurrency topics to my friends and family. It seems to frustrate them, and my brother, who dabbled in Bitcoin, appears content with his modest involvement. My friends, primarily traditional market investors, are still reluctant. This reflects a growing divide; the cryptocurrency world is truly an ‘if you know, you know’ domain.
The sentiment of being ‘chosen’ isn’t far from reality for many in the crypto sphere. The opportunities and transformative economic potentials are undeniable once you start observing them. Despite the sensationalist coverage over the past decade, which echoes early internet critiques focusing on dangers and scams, the crypto ecosystem continues to thrive.
Conversing about my investments often leads to familiar reactions from outsiders. Those who lack understanding between Bitcoin, meme coins, NFTs, and blockchain nodes, often hastily label it all as a scam. The knee-jerk reaction to ridicule what we don’t comprehend persists. I, however, felt a distinct urge to explore Bitcoin and altcoins, a nudge that I couldn’t ignore, reminiscent of my pivotal decision 17 years ago to relocate to Abu Dhabi.
Embracing the Untapped Potential
The more I invest in learning about cryptocurrency, the stronger my conviction grows that it represents the future of finance. Ignoring it could mean missing significant opportunities. My involvement is partly due to the investment potential, partly for the excitement, and partly for the diversification of my portfolio.
For instance, when I encountered discussions about XRP last fall, I adopted the approach of “just buy some,” investing at 55 cents and witnessing its robust performance since. This strategic investment underscored the importance of diligent research into Ripple, the company behind XRP, and their substantial presence within the U.S. financial system and global partnerships, including those in the UAE.
Perhaps the concept of being ‘chosen’ is not exclusive. Anyone willing to explore and learn can seize these opportunities.
